Haven't posted a tech question in awhile, but one has recently arose.I have a 1980 Ford F100,with a 4.9 300 I6.I've been having some problems with the battery keeping a charge. If I let the truck sit for about 3 days,it completely looses charge. It usually starts losing the charge after two days of sitting.I don't start the truck everyday, but I know the battery shouldn't be losing the charge that fast. The truck is a base option truck, and it has no radio or any other special options.I always make sure that all lights are off.The unknowledgeable employees at my local parts store keep trying to tell me that i'm leaving the lights on,but as afore-mentioned,I always make sure the lights are off.Since I got the truck back in March of 08,i've been through 3 or 4 different batteries. What could be draining the battery so quickly?I've gone over the wiring, and nothing has been wired into the truck. There is a yellow wire on the passenger side that looks like it came out of a fusable link. The end is melted. The truck still runs without it,but could this possibly be what's draining the charge?I can get a pic if it would help.
I also have a problem with the rear turn signals. The front ones work, but the rear turn signals do not.All the wires are connected,so i'm thinking there's some kind of switch that went bad.All help is greatly appreciated.
Im having a similar issue and i am starting to think that my voltage regulator is gone, the truck charges great but drains battery over a few days. U should fix the wire in question and hook a multimeter between the negative post on battery and neg terminal. This shows the draw on the system. U can use a test light for this also the light should be very dim to non extistant.

I just realized I posted this in the 87-96 Forum instead of 80-86.Whoops.But it's all the same. But anyways, the voltage regulator has already been replaced.I'm gonna try hooking that wire back up.The problem is,it broke off inside the fusible link,so i'll probably have to go out to the junkyard and cut one from another truck and splice it in.Any other suggestions from anyone before I go and accidentally electricute myself?I don't think my girlfriend would like that too well.lol.
