Today the driver's side interior door handle mechanism just ripped out a piece of the door metal. I don't know if a muffler shop would weld a piece of metal back in it for me or not. The mechanism has one bolt with a capture washer thingie that it goes through around a small piece of metal. Anyone have any other ideas? I thought about maybe pop riveting a piece of metal in. Anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?
the sheet metal on mine has ripped too but hasnt came all the way off yet im just gonna weld a thicker piece of sheet metal over it i would take it to the muffler shop theyd be alble to figure somthing out for ya
I thought about pop riveting heavier metal in it's place but didn't have time so I just used the bolt, nut and fender washer (plus lock washer)mentioned in the link. It solved my problem and worked for about a year and then I sold it.
Thanks for the info guys! A buddy of mine is going to weld in a piece of metal Sunday. I may drill it out and put a washer and nylock nut on the original bolt.
A change of plans here. I went with y'all's ideas and put a fender washer and a nylock nut on the original bolt and tightened 'er down. The key to it working is also in your suggestions. I sprayed WD-40 on the handle mechanism and it opens smooth as new. definetly if your inside handle is the least bit hard to pull up spray some lube in there. the difference is amazing!
Thanks again guys!
