Anyone have left rear lug nut issues?
I went to a sole proprietor tire shop this week to have two tires removed from some old rims. The shopkeeper said he would not touch them and thinks "these old trucks" should not be on the road. He said that he's heard that the left rear wheels on Ford truck have a history of losing lug nuts and falling off. He said he's afraid of liability. Anyone else heard of the left rear lug nut problem?

Was the guy smoking crack or what?
I've never heard of an issue with the left rears or any others coming loose on a Ford truck, or any other truck/car. I say you need to find a better tire store.
"these old trucks should not be on the road"......that should have been your first red flag.

It sure makes you wonder how some people stay in business doesn't it?
Years ago MOPAR products had left handed thread lug nuts and studs on the left side of their vehicles. I'd always heard it was done to keep the lug nuts from coming loose while driving.....I don't know if thats the real reason or an old wives tale.
I put in some time at various tire stores and spent alot of time wrenching for a living as well and have never heard of Fords having a history of left rear lug nuts coming loose.

Find a new tire shop. Run away as fast as you can. The guy is an idiot.

There could be loosening with wheels/nuts that use flat rather than tapered lug nuts, lugnuts that are greased where they contact the wheels, wheels where the lugnut seat is worn enough that the nut contacts the brake drum before tightening against the wheel, lugnuts that are not torqued properly. Except for the frst, they are maintainance issues that are not vehicle specific.
I'd suspect any shop that makes decisions based on what they've "heard" rather than fact. Also, how could he be liable for anything for REMOVING a tire from a rim, unless his tire machine blew up while he was doing it... ?(Try that one on him, bring in a late model tire and rim, go look at his tire machine and say "never mind, I've heard this type tire machines destroy wheels and tires!" then walk out. Say it loudly on a busy day in front of customers to be most effective.
