hey every one not sure if this is the spot for a van but it is a h.d. any ways we have a 98 econoline 350 in our fleet and i am having problems with the lights. when i flip the high beem's on it blow's the fuse to all the lights, also the turn signals and high beem indicator are on, but the high beems are not on and the turn signals are not on. when you use the turn signals they work but the flasher is oposet then normal and there is no lights workin in the instrament panelle but the warning lights and service engine soon and all that work. every other light works except the high beems. i checked all the fuses and they are all good and i just installed a new head light switch/dimmer tonight and also a new multifuntion switch (turn signal high low hazard) you know what im talking bout im sure. any ways im the mechanic at my job and it woould be very help fully with any idea's and inpute. i called the dealer but of course they said bring it in you know how that works. thanks
james
Look for a short in the wiring to the multi-switch in the column. Unplug the multi-switch and preform a test of the harness with a multimeter. Check for continuity between the harness and ground. There should only be one path to ground but you will find a couple. You probably have a chaffed harness.
k well i cant stand working on electricall so im bout to loose it lol. any ways i have been tinkering with this van for the past couple days and have the whole front end apart looking for a shorted wire cause it was hit awhile ago in the front. i didnt see any thing. so now im taking apart the whole intiror, theres a lot of sharp edges under the dash. but what i did notice is when i turn the running lamps on the multifuntion switch harness feels fine but when i turn the head lamps on the harness gets hot and makes the lights flicker and i can feel it in the headlamp on off switch and also here it. i still have no dash lights but the turn signal and high beem indacater is still on, but all my fuses are good. i tried using the multi meter on it and really have no idea whitch ones are ground cause i cant find a wiring diagram and the dealer was really busy today i did a back probe test on the multifuntion switch and most were 12 volt but there was two i think that were 7 and 8 and others were 0. that normall or should they be 12 volts and 0? any one have ideas beside what im thinking in it being some wires rubbed through. mabey a turn signal relay?
thanks ,alot,Ill try that,I wonderd about that multi switch.

any one know the secret to getting the stupid top dash off. i got all the little screws i can see out, from underneeth, up top by the windshield, heater venting. the only thing i can see holding it on is what apears to be like three screws underneeth the dash going to the top of the venting. after i get the dash off i will hopfully find the chaffed harness. i take it i have to get all the venting out with the top dash?
