I have an 88 Ford Ranger that wasn''t running when I bought it. The problem is that the fuel pump won't come on. The signal that turns the relay on is not going low when I turn on the ignition switch. I can force it low with by grounding it and the truck will start and run. Is there a sensor that interlocks the fuel pump circuit? The EEC relay (whatever that is) is the same relay as the fuel pump and it''s not turning on either. What am I missing?
Fuel pump relay is closed by the PCM, which gets its power from the EEC relay. If I were in your shoes, I'd focus on why the EEC relay isn't closing (bad wiring, bad ignition switch, bad EEC relay).
I would look at the ignition switch like mrshorty says-its down the steering column..look to see if its burnt or discolored..also, push down on your entire power dist. box when you have it open to make sure that all the relays are seated properly, and the box hasn't been lifted up of the board, and the relays don't make contact....
