Y block ID

I downloaded an ID chart on Y blocks and it says you will find the block ID code either above the Oil filter or in front of the generator and next to the distributor. The engine is in the truck, so it makes it hard to see around the distributor, but I cleaned and looked above the filter and in front of the generator and I see nothing.
Are the numbers cast into the block or stamped?? How large (noticable) are they?? Am I looking in the right place??
Thank you
Tim

1956 should be above the oil filter along the block deck just below the cylinder head. They will be 3/8 to 7/16" in size cast into the block.

Thanks, I will look closer.

The ID chart I got off a google search of "Ford Y block identification".

Since the numbers were at the distributor its a DIF block (dearborn iron foundry) .

The CF (cleveland foundry) Blocks have the numbers down by the oil filter.

I used to supply all the steel mill and foundry at Dearborn with shell sections and ladles back in the 80s and 90s. It is cool that my products made Ford products...and no yblocks..LOL
Probably made ford taurus and escorts with the steel ....haha!!
