Will try maybe another forum.
In 1992 you could get a 150 with a 460. Does a 460 weigh more than a 6.8 or 6.0. The chassis has it own wireing and the engine has its. Have an 85 LTD with a 90 or so 5.0 with mass air etc and it works.
I have talked to a few guys on here that have installed 460's in that era of trucks, talked to one fella that installed a 5.9 cummins in a regular cab shortbed f150. Anything is possible, but it is alot of work.
Joej, check out the 6 liter diesel forums, and the v10 forums, do a search, and you should find your answers. I dont know them offhand or I would tell em to ya!
I guess it should be asked...what kind of power are you looking for, and why?
If you're looking to tow, that I6 is the way to go with very little work. The 460 would also be a good choice, but requires beefing up the front suspension.
If you want a fast truck, 5.0s are plentiful and cheap and can EASILY put out 300hp with nothing more than a good cam and exhaust.
Swapping in a modular motor would cost a fortune, but it could be done. Personally, I'd look at a 302 and build it up a bit.
I would go with the 302 or a 351. Both of these use the same bellhousing as the I6, this would make the job a lot easier: no tranny swap needed. If you want more towing power than the I6 provides, you should probably get a heavier duty truck.
The drivetrain didnt even know the trailer was back there the rear springs need a boost though... I dont see needing more pull than a 300 6 can offer, its the toughest motor ford made put up with much abuse and come back for more
Cheapest way to get more power would definatly be a 302 or better yet a 351 swap. Kinda depends what kind of power your looking for.
A modular swap wouldnt be too bad for price, you could get a vehicle with a modular from a wrecker for pretty cheap and have all the parts you would need (look for a rear ended truck or car!)
Not everyone wants to do it cheap though, some guys look for different powerplants to stand out. If your going that route, i would vote for a 6 liter diesel for the speed factor, or the v10!
