Hi all! This is my first post and by the looks of this active forum, what a great community i've stumbled upon.
Here is my issue. I purchased a 2004 F150 FX4 a few months ago and during the summer I washed it myself with no problems. Living in California, we don't get much rain. During the last month, I've taken my truck to two different car washes and they have a typical "touchless" pressure car wash.
After both car washes, my truck's electrical system goes haywire. The lockes will lock and unlock, radio will stay on when the truck is off and the computer plugged into the ECM will not go off. when this happened the first time, the problem resolves itself after a few hours. After the second wash, I came home and parked the truck. Two days later the battery was dead.
I heard from a friend that some F150s had a problem with water getting in past the front windshield during rain and that may cause these issues. I find it hard to belive that with millions of F150s on the road, they have problems getting wet!
have your battery tested...and check the cables connecting to your battery for damage/corrosion
what you are describing is exactly what these trucks do when they get a battery that is almost dead. They lose their freaking mind. CD player cycles, locks on/off, you can hear relays everywhere clicking...it's like the truck is possessed.
I think that may be your problem. Bad battery, or the truck isn't getting enough juice due to a bad connection...and then the water just accelerates the issue.

I will check the battery tomorrow morning but I've had no problems with the battery when cranking. The issue only happens after I get it washed from a car wash.
I had my windshield replaced and there was rust around the frame. I live in Vegas, so it's not crazy to think that you might have a leak. Mabey even in your doors. Give it a good visual inspect around the weather strip.
I agree with the above post. They act like they are going to catch on fire when the battery gets low.
Haven't seen this yet on the 04 and new, but the previous body style had leaking windshield seals. Water would get into the fuse block and gem modules and cause several electrical problems. THe door locks continuing to cycle really sticks in my mind.

So I called AAA today and they replaced my battery with a new battery. When we plugged the new batter in, the headlights stayed on (in the off position) and the radio would not turn off. The door locks were also dead.
I dropped the truck off at Ford and they gave me an initial quote of 300 and said, these issues are difficult to pinpont and it won't be cheap!
Needless to say, I'm frustrated that my 4x4 can't get wet without having problems...
