Pushrod Question:
However, when I shop around I notice there are two lengths available: 10.136", and 10.203". I thought that the first must be for roller rockers, but everywhere except Isky the short ones are 1/4 the price of the long ones.
Can any one shed some light on this? I spoke Mr. Isky, their tech guy, but he never got back to me. Imagine that.
When I asked the machinist about it, he just said that he was not a speed shop. I even had to tell him how much to deck the block to bump the compression. Luckily I had done my homework and had the info. Of course he cleaned .010 off the head to clean/flatten it, like normal, and I had him shave .019 off the block. According to my research, that should give me 8.9:1 compression with the 8.5:1 pistons I have. Does that sound right?
Thanks for the feedback. K.
Are you using the stock rockers, springs, cam, etc? If so, I think the stock push rods are probably OK. New stock push rods (NAPA) were used in my build with the aftermarket cam, lifter, and spring kit along with .010 off the block and head. I ran in to that kind of machinist mentality when first planning my rebuild. One shop (rebuilds for a major parts chain) would not do any custom work at all...just rebuild to their specs. Period.
I've usually done best sending tech help departments an E/mail...it may be 2-3 days before they get back but they always have.
I did not know that site existed. I went by two different postings here. I hope it is okay, and that I can stay on regular gas. I took .010 off the head, and .019 off the block.
Regarding pushrods: I am using an Isky 256 cam, with Isky hp springs, and have been shopping for new rockers like the comp cams ones at summit.
thanks for the info.
From the DD projections I have seen on that cam, it really builds torque. It is somewhat similar to the Crane 503901 and Comp 260h and you shouldn't have a problem using stock push rods.
Nope, not looking for rollers, just needed to know if OE replacements were strong enough with the isky springs, etc. Thanks for answering the question.
With all the info I've gotten from you, I might have to start paying you a consultation fee, ha ha. Thanks so much.
