I currently have 235/75/17 tires on my F-150. The original Hankook tires that came OEM are worthless. I have had two blowouts in 6 months with only 44k miles on the truck.
I am looking at either a 235/75/17 BFG light truck tire or the 265/70/17 BFG light truck tire. I use the truck mostly for highway travel and occasionally at a jobsite now and again.
Are there any oppinions for/against 235's vs. 265's. I.E. gas mileage, better stability, etc...
The difference in pricing is only 4 dollars a tire. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
For only $4 more a tire I would definitely go with the 265/70/17. It is a slightly bigger tire and will fill the wheel well better. You would notice a very minimal gas mileage decrease at the most. We actually made the same switch on one of the work trucks that are in and out of the job sites. I can't say it will approve your driving on the jobsites greatly but every little bit helps. Definitely get rid of the Hankooks though.
you'll gain about 1" in height and width with those 265's. If you are going to jobsites with varying terrain, I vote for them since they'll give you a bit more traction.
actually, I vote the 265 tires period. A 235 tire is just too narrow for a truck IMO.
