Cat clogged??

My bud was saying your cat could get clogged and harm performance. IS this true? How could you tell short of cutting it off?? I have only one, my exhaust is still stock, no mods yet. Just curious. My truck runs well over all, just thinking maybe I could open it up and let breath better. Another question, am going to run duels here before summer, thinking of using existing manifolds, they are in good shape for now, 2 1/2" pipes, a x- crossover (suggested previously), and a pair of flowmaster 40 series. Should I use a tip of some sort? Or can I just run the pipes out the back no tips? Do tips make the sound mellow? I'm looking for moderate noise with not too much interior resonation, with a nice rumble at idle. What do you guys think? Thanks, Blair

Cat clogged??

Cats can get clogged, don't ask me how. When I was car shopping I had a dealership buy me an 01 F150 4.2 with 38,000 miles. I made them run it through their service dept before I would sign the contract and they had to replace the cats becuase they were clogged. After they replaced the cats the deal fell through ...as far as tips go, they do hollow the sound of your exhaust and look good too. The diameter and length of the tip determines the sound.
