OK I posted a while back and never got an answer or opinion. I have an issue with my truck. It hunts for idle up 200-300 rpm sometimes 500 rpm and it triest to over power the brakes. It seems to only do this when the temperature is at a certain degree. I can crank it up cold, it runs like a turd for a second then clears up, and it will run normal for about 5-10 min depending on the outside temp. Then it will begin hunting for the idle until I get going down the road and apply some RPMs. After I go about 5-10 min down the road it will not do it again until the next cold startup. This morning it was about 16 degrees and it actually died after it cranked the first time but it started right back up. No CEL or codes coming across the SCT X3. If it is the HPOP I am going to have to do it myself as well as the ICP. I thought about doing the ICP and see if that cures it. What do you guys think? I know the HPOP is a major repair but I am capable of it with a few questions on here and the phone contact of a 6.0 mechanic friend of mine. I just do not want to throw parts at it as they are so expensive. Your help in troubleshooting will be appreciated.
sounds like a sticking ipr or a issue with the ipr wiring. it could be a icp sensor but without any codes, you will have to find the sensor under the turbo and look and see if it leaking. if it is leaking then there is your problem.
I had problems very close to what you discribe. The only thing that I had extra was a dead pedel sometimes. That will cause a pucker when you are trying to pull into traffic. Anyway, My ICP is in the pass valve cover, I unplugged it and just blew the trash out of the connector thinking that I was going to have to replace it. As I plugged it in everything went smooth and I have not had another problem with it! I do not know if it was the trash or if unplugging it "reset" something in the system. Mine was acking out daily at the time and that was about 3 months ago, not another problem sence. I understand that if your ICP is at the back of the motor it makes this much more difficult. But for me it was an easy issue.
Also if anyone is capable of reading a data log taken with the sct computer datalog software and decifer it I can capture a cold start datalog tomorrow. I just need to know what perameters to set up. Now bowtiehatr when you say ipr you mean injector pressure regulator? Thanks for the quick replies. I also meant to post it had 160K miles on it so I know it is time to start breaking but I would like to stay on top of it especially now because I am 500 miles from home and will be returning Thurs. Thanks keep the suggestions coming.
you want to look at icp pressure and voltage pid. normally the sensor shorts out and goes to 0 volts. .25- to .35 is expected. ipr (yes you are right) pid wont do you much good because there is no positive feedback on where the ipr is only where it is commanded.
like i said, find the icp sensor under the turbo because it will leak and cause these issues. you can unplug it and make it home but your truck will act funny. also you can remove the ipr and look at the screen. if there is a hole in the screen, then you are looking at pump replacement etc.
OK I have called and talked to a few people and they believe the ipr may be the culprit. Is this under the secondary filter? How much should a new on e cost me? Thanks
