I have been having trouble for several weeks now. A couple weeks ago I went down to Louisiana. The whole way there, whenever I took off from a stop the rpms would drop and engine would almost die. I was talking to some people when I got there, and they suggested it was the fuel filter. I changed it, and it was fine for about a week. I changed the filter again when it started acting up again. It seemed to fix the problem for a couple days. I then changed the CPS. It seemed to do some good for a couple days. I just changed it again a couple days ago. It doesnt stall everytime, just sometimes now. This si the first deisel I have owned. None of my mechanic friends know anything about deiseld and I don't know where to start now. I love the deisel, but this is discouraging. Thanks in adavce.
is it the motor?? or could it be the TC in the trans trying to lock early on you?? if its power loss..unhook the fuel line going into the fuel pump and try blow back into the tank..the screen in there could be full of crap...

Do I use air or mouth?

Yes it is a programmer. I will try going back to stock. I did try different power levels and it did the same thing. I didn't think about taking it off. Thanks guys.
Give it a shot of compressed air. Unscrew the fuel cap first so the air has somewhere to go, then make sure you've got fuel coming back out of the line before you stick it back on the fuel pump.
When was the last time you changed the oil, and is the oil full? These trucks are very sensitive to engine oil.
Check the HPOP level too. It should be whithin about 1/2 inch from the top. The HPOP is right under the engine dressing cover and is the cap on the right hand side of the top as you are facing it. If for some reason that reservoir is not full then the HPOP will have a rough time building pressure to operate the injectors.
If you use an air compressor to blow the line out turn down the pressure because before the fuel pump it is designed for suction not pressure. It don't take alot of pressure to clear the line. Just my .02 and besides I don't want to say how I know.
I just changed the oil, so it is fresh and full. Also, the high idle doesn't kick in like it should. When it does it only idles at about 800 rpm instead of 1000 like normal. I don't know if these are related or not.
I pulled the codes at lunch. I got 1249. Can someone let me know what this is? I appreciate all the help guys. I am a diesel newb, but I love it when it runs right.
What else have you done besides change the oil? There were a few suggestions above, did you try all of those? Did you set the truck back to stock, or have you done anything with the little green or red plastic tubes in the engine bay?
I'd ignore the high idle issue for now. Depending on temps and conditions, mine will only idle up to 800 rpm's or so every once in a while too.
