Evening every one, havent posted in a while just wandering has anyone seen a drop in their fuel mpg, still have the same driving habbits with a recent oil change. my mileage dropped from 15.7 down to 12.3 is this normal with the cold temps here in central pa. some feed back would be nice, thanks FFF.....
Winter blend will sap your power and fuel mileage. Depends on what percentage of #1 your distributor is dishing out. The more #1 you have the lower your pour point (less chance of gelling). Number 1 fuel produces lower BTUs heat; which translates for us into less power/MPG.
But you can't blame it all on your fuel:
1. Cold weather will sap your performance. The colder it gets the less efficient your diesel will be. As temps get down to -30 to -60'F my trucks exhaust will have a blue tint to it (raw diesel). When I pull the snow mobile trailer back from Summit mountain, just maintaining 60 mph is hard work for the truck when its that cold. When its above zero truck stays in high gear most of the time and doesn't labor much at all (32'X8.5 triple axle car trailer loaded with 12 sleds)
2. And most of the winter habits I am reading on this forum are not good for the trucks or your fuel mileage, ie letting the truck idle and idle.
just the price I will gladly pay to live in the most beautifull place on the planet.
