help with some choices

I am planning the resotration of my 75 highboy. it has a stock 79 later 460 with a c6. my other truck wich is going to be a donor has a 390 with a np435

what combo should I go with. I was leaning toward the 460 and the np 435. on the motor i want to do a 400-500 hp build. So the question is go with the np435 or the c6

also it is an air cab should I keep the ac?

the trannys will not swap to the other engines. the bolt pattern is different between engines. The rest is just personal preference and how you are going to use the truck.

what you mean the tranys will not swap. I thought I could put the np 435 behind the 460 with a 400 bellhousing. I was also going to put a lift in the truck it is mostly going to be used on road with the once in a while off road.

the 390 has a bolt pattern of its own

360/390("FE or y-block") same

302/351w(90deg "small block") same

351m/400(335series)-429/460(385series) same

390/stick/ditch the air. Just my personal preference. Love those FE's. By the way an FE and Y-block are completely different and I'm fairly confident so are the bells.

Thats right, so with a 400 bellhousing on a 460 you can put the np435

Sorry, read it wrong, If you put a 400 bellhousing on a 390 np435, yes it will work. Didn't know you had one.

Wasn't sure on the y-block, thanks

You will spend far less money on the 460 (385 series) engine, and you can easily achieve your horspower figures with mild mods.
To achieve this with an FE will require a bit more work, and money. It can be done but with the same effort, you will be farther ahead with an engine that starts out with more cubic inches.
You are correct about the transmissions, you will only have to change the bellhousing to bolt up your trans to the 460. Believe it or not, depending on your crank, (internal or external balance) you can even use the flywheel from the FE. Little tid bit for you there.

I would personally keep the A/C intact and run the 460 with NP435.

the motor is external balenced. with the ac I want to run roller rockers and with the taller valve covers I think there is a clerance issue with the black box. but I think I will go with the 460 np435 and a np 205. what you guys think is there any advantaage with the c6 over the np435?

I'm confused why anyone would use a auto trans of any kind when they have a good manual waiting for a home?

OH......that and the fact that it takes around 15-30 horse to run the auto trans at highway speeds. Use the 435, more power to the ground and a small break on gas to boot!
