Hey guys, thanks for answering my last post. So exhaust tips do improve sound, coooool. Well my next question.. where can I get a good pair of big tips to improve the sound? What brands do you guys suggest? I've got dual exhaust with turbo mufflers, only 2 1/4 pipes (bllllaaaaah), and it has an aggressive tone to it once I get to about 3000+ RPM, but I want something with that big truck burble, so you can hear it when its idling.. what do you guys suggest? Deeper the better.
make your own. Just go to a steel company and check the rems bin. Sometimes they've got some 12"-24" lengths of stainless pipe. Try 3.5-4", that'll give you a good sound. But don't let it get you down if there's no rems, 1'-2' 4" pipe isn't exactly scrap
Hey--
I live in Alaska...and boy do they jack the ***** outta prices up here... I purchased a few things from summitracing.com (two k&n kits, for me and my dad, and an exhaust kit...) anyhow... they have a nice selection of tips there for like 30 bucks a tip and they're stainless polished. I am thinkin about getting some big ol' 5" bazooka tips but take a look there... Save you some dignity of pickin thru a heap o' scrap

I've been toying with that idea in the back of my head, but how would you attach 3"-3.5" pipe to 2.25"-2.5" exhaust pipe?
go to an exhaust shop and have them make you a reducer/expander. This can easily be done with there pipe bender/expandrer machine. I had one made up from 2 1/4 to 3. Works awesome

Alright princess, go ahead and spend $35 a tip out of a catolog. Then you won't have to worry about getting your precious hands dirty in the low-class scrap bin
But hey, I really love the scrap heaps. It's not that I can't afford stuff that I need, but I enjoy old vehicles and salvaging GOOD parts from other, retired vehicles, or making parts from some good scraps. I am very proud of my pick-and-pull hobby! Just last week alone, I might have dropped close to a grand on parts, but I got away with about 40 bucks instead!
All working, good looking parts!
Also, I prefer old vehicles to new ones. I would rather have my 71 Torino GT than a new Mustang any day!
Or, my 70's trucks to the new ones.
I had a 95 F150 and loved it, but the character of the old girls can't be matched!

Yeah, I totally hear you on that one. There's something about driving my '72 that my '95 (much as I love it) can't touch. I mean, if I had to choose I'd take the '95 in a heartbeat. Whenever people ask why old trucks, I tell them all the same thing: "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand"
My truck isn't as old, its an '85.. but there is something about that squared off look and that steel that just looks alot better than those new trucks to me.. It just looks to me like if I ran into a new F-150 the body panels would shatter like glass... lol, but then again I've ran my truck into a few things and got nothing worse than a dent. And all those dents and scratches add personality! Well, until I fix them and paint it.. lol.. alright guy thanks for the advice, I found some piping real cheap, and the reducers you can get at Pep-boys if you wanna.. I just had a muffler shop add mine on.
I made my own... 3-1/2" polished stainless steel, 32" long you really do have to look to be sure the whole exhaust system isn't stainless. anybody that's ever seen 12-16" tips on the old '92-'96 f-series knows that they look like pep boys bolt on 5 dollar junk because you can see the exhaust system pretty much from the axle back... so they need extra long tips to look good in my own opinion.
