2003 nav radio problem

2003 nav radio problem
I have a 2003 expedition EB with the nav radio in it. I have two questions.
First, has anyone had trouble with the display going all weird with lines on it and then a few days later it would be fine. Then when you go to start it again it would be unreadable with the lines?
Second, there is a connector on the back that I just can't get off. it is the black and white connector with four wires in it. For the life of me, I can't get it off.
I am looking at sending this unit out to get repaired as I think it is just a display chip. I would hate to spend 2000 dollars for a new one.
Any ideas people?
