I have a 1990 Ford (obviously) F 150 2WD XLT Lariat reg cab LB
Anyways, i just bought the truck about 2 months ago. Haven't really gotten a chance to drive it, so i took it on a 2 and a half hour road trip i needed to go on just to see how it would perform.
Something i noticed is that when accelerating too much, or just when in higher speeds (around 60 - 70 mph) It bogs down and kinda shakes as if it's not getting either enough gas, or air. I checked the air filter and its brand new. So I'm not sure what kind of problem i have. The truck runs fine, its just annoying when you can't get the full performance out of it when you should.
Any tips? should i check the fuel injector for air flow problems or should i drop the tank and check out the pump or..? is there possibly a fuel filter that might be clogged.
I haven't tried to see if the problem is consistent in the rear gas tank, I've not had enough money to put gas in it yet.
Catalytic converters can cause loss of power when they get clogged up. You can often spot a bad cat by hitting it with your hand and listening for rattles, other times they just get clogged up and cause loss of power.
On your 1990, the fuel filter should be along the inside of the driver's side frame rail about halfway down the truck.
Just in case something is weird and your truck has the filter in the location of the '87-'89 trucks it would by the fuel supply pump on the frame rail back by the tank.
That is just plain crappy. We had horrible single digit real temperatures a few feet of snow and high winds from before Christmas until right after the new year. It has been in the low forties most days since the 2nd but the damn snow is still piled up in parking lots and beside the roads.
think the oil change is bad, my buddy had a 87 chevy ( i know, chevy talk in a ford forum ) and the flywheel was bad. His buddy did it outside, replaced flywheel and clutch in below zero weather here in wisconsin over 2 days. Thats dedicated. and he made like 100 bucks. lol
