Yet another 97?

Hi Guys,
I might have the opportunity to purchase a 97 LWB F-150XL 2wd with a
4.6 V6...Its a carbon copy(even the paint) of my present F-150.
Its showing a whopping 275,000 miles on it.According to the owner it runs and drives good.
With that being said,he,s wanting 2200.00 for the truck.Ive bascially made him an offer of 1000.00,and given him my phone number.
He wasn,t hacked off about the offer,so Im thinking he may call.
The truck has marginal tires, and a few dings here and there, but its all OEM.
Bedliner,and crossover toolbox as well.
Ive had no issues with my 4.2,but am un familiar with any short comings of the 4.6.
Advice is as always welcome. This may or may not come to fruition, but want to be armed with as much info as possible if it does.
Thanks in advance for replies!

With that many miles I would be concerned about the life left on the tranny.
As for the 4.6, they tend to blow a little blew smoke after 100k + that from my understanding comes from valve seals going bad. A minor problem that the 4.6s have is the throttle body elbow builds up with carbon and helps set the P0401 code.
A big wear item on any F150 is suspension; ball joints, tie rods, ect.
I would hold my ground on the offer just because of the high mileage.

Thanks for the reply,I am indeed going to hold my ground..this truck is directly across the street from my office,so I can see any "activity" over there.Ive got a sneaking suspicion he,s going to "market" it for a week or so,and something tells me im gonna get a call....Anyway,I was in error on my first post,I said V6,and it is of course a v8.
I have been doing some research on the 4.6,and so far havent come up with any detrimental issues...still waiting for some additional feedback from the group...

The only problem i have with my 1997 f150 wit the 4.6 is when it was about 10 degrees i had to give it a lil throttle to start it and, its just a tad under powered

Thats good to hear,I guess if it was 10 degrees, and I had been outside all night,I,d be cantankerous as well

Talked to the guy with the truck today, and while he was very nice,Im having doubts that he will go down to my offering price. You never know however...
Ill keep yall posted...

I have a 97 XLT 4.6 2WD and my bro has a 97 Lar. only issue he had was a plug blew apart (Thought it was the head) luckly it was the porclian (sp?) that blew out of the threads?? never heard that one since!?! We both have 170,000++ and no issues. He and my Dad bought new at the same time. Dad bought an 04 and I bought his old one then.
