i'm writting this with my head in my hands,ON MY 460 i just bought a new dbl roller timing set from cloyes and bought a new msd dizzy 8350, so i take off all i need to remove (PRO-COMP) noisey gears, and put in my new cloyes chain set line eveything up with #1 piston all the way up, now here is were i get stumped, when i put in the new dizzy, she sits in there really nice but were should my rotor point? would it matter as long as i am at tdc and my timing marks are aligned, if i drop in the dizzy and put my #1 wire on the cap were the rotor is pointing then it should fire? as it sits right now i have the dizzy in with all lined up tdc and the rotor points to center of the carb , if i put the cap on and install my #1 plug wire @that and run the rest of the wires accordingly it should work, I THINK?
as long as your chain is installed correctly, the cam timing is fine. The dizzy has nothing to do with cam timing.
You can put your rotor wherever it falls. The dizzy just distributes spark. It does not care where you decide to install the number one wire. It can be anywhere as long as the rotor points accordingly, and the rest of the wires follow suit.
Your idea abouve will work just fine. Many install the dizzy 180 out and just change the wires to accomodate this.
Put the number one wire wherever your rotor is at, and follow the firing order, and you will be fine.
Confusing for the next guy, but if you are the only one to work on your ride, you just have to remeber what you did.
