Talking basic upgrade questions

Hello, I had a few questions about some of the stuff i just got to put on my truck. It is a 1979 f150 w/400 and auto and full time four wheel. I have had the truck for about a year and once i got it running reliably i have haad to do nothing to it. I have no problems with it except i can't get the carb set properly... The point id i have been aquiring pieces over the past few weeks to work on this thing in the spring. I don't want to do too much to it because it isn't broke ya know. I got a edelbrock 1405 carb, mallory unilite distributor, pertronix coil, edelbrock streetmaster intake, and edelbrock valve covers(got to have a little flair). My questions are it turns out the coil i got is ratred at 3.0 ohms resistance and the instructions showed that it was not recomended for a V8...will it still work. The other is about the intake.i have read since i bought it that it is no good. is this true or is it maybe good but just not as good as say the performer series. could someone also suggest a different cam for a stock engine and would it be benificial to change it. Headers are in my next search. wow that was long and i do apoligize

An Edelbrock Streetmaster manifold is a Single Plane manifold. It is for a high RPM motor, and not so good for a f150 4x4.

Keep the Ford Duraspark ignition, its as good as the Mallory and better than the Pertronix coil.

If you want to replace the ignition get one of those HEI units.

I would recommend a new double roller timing set with the timing set 'straight up'.

A Comp Cams 255DEH, or 256XE cam will be best for a stock compression motor.

Always go by the manufacturers' recommendations-do not run the coil if it is not built for V8's.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:

Also, there is now an excellent installation article on the D.U.I. Distributor on the Ford-Trucks.com site at:
