When your relay started cycling on and off, what did that sound like? Just clicking, or...?

I actually had gotten my alternator from a parts truck that i have out here.

Yes, a few seconds after I had shut down the engine, it starting clicking like mad, and I could also hear my fuel pump priming over and over as I walked back toward the middle of the truck... And one other thing, the ECM relay was warm to the touch. It had green corrosion underneath that was shorting it out.

it doesn't sound like you have a constant drain, or a regular problem, it seems to be more intermediate. One thing you can do is to put an amp meter across the battery terminals and see what the current draw is. If you have some draw then go to the fuse box and start pulling fuses one by one. As soon as you find the fuse that cause the draw to stop, then you can trace that circuit. A lot easier way to find a short, if you have one, or at least you can pinpoint more closely what system/circuit the draw is on.

I had to do that on my 80 chevy truck, finally found it, turned out to be that damn switch on my drivers door, the one that controlled the dome light.!!!

Best of luck keep us posted

With my truck the fuel pump would prime as soon as i hooked up the battery, and i had .38 amp draw. I too had the green crosssion on the relay. The only reason i found the problem was that i accidently moved the rigged wire at my eec relay and the draw wasgone. I chased the problem for months and its been a lil while since i had to jump truck. Thing with mine was that the check engine light wouldnt come on at startup until i turned itt over then the fuel pump would prime up. And then it would start. And sometimes the battery would be dead, and sometimes not. My total cost to fix it was 24.00,new eec relay and a new eec relay plug. Preppypro try just pullin the eec relay and let it sit and see if the battery goes dead or try the relay from the parts truck

Hey deeze, did you have problems with your truck battery dieing and not being able to start it, after driving it for a little bit? Or was your drain just overnight?

Corrosion...

Hey guys just a word of advice, since you are already taking things apart always use Sil-Glyde or some kind of dielectric grease on these connections to keep this from happening anytime again...
