Well I have drained and replaced the diff cover on on my rear diff and I cannot find the location to add new oil. Does anyone have a picture of where it is?
The front diff you just add the oil in the hole on the cover I am assuming.
Yes, on the front your correct. On the drivers side, on the botttom side of the cast part (the housing) towards the front, there is a plug, put an extension on a 3/8" ratchet and spin it out.
The first thing I had to do when I got my truck was replace the rear diff cover. It was so corroded that lube was actually seeping through it! When you put the cover back on, make sure to follow the directions on the RTV hi temp. I loved guzzle's writeup on it also.
Pull the VSS out of the top of the front of the rear diff. It is an easy fill from there. You ought to pull that anyway IOT remove the metal fur from it since you changed fluid.. Just make sure to pull the side fill plug so you can tell when it is full. Let me see if I have pics in my gallery.
Here it is. I still need to flip that pic. Top/up is to the left. You can see the inspection/fill plug is removed. The VSS mounts on a hole behind where you see me holding it. It's easy to see when you look.
this oil was thick it took me 2 hours to fill the housing, I would fill the funnel and then it would take forever for the funnel to empty. that stuff is thick.
