On the gp controller behind the pass. batt. How many, if any fuselinks are supposed to be connected there? I have about 10 comming of the various studs there, and 2 of them have melted and burnt in two above the fuse halfway to the connector.
My schematic shows about 10.........87-89 were the same. I don't have your email, if you'd like the schematics ... click on my name and email me... I will forward asap.

That would be the starter relay not GP controller it is behind the engine intake on the manifold.
I thought the controller was on the engine? Are you looking at the starter relay? If so, there are many fusible links, if I tried to count them all on the diagram I am sure I am going to miss one. This is the main power feed area for the whole truck, and there are fusible links for the alternator, the headlights, the main fuse box, the ignition switch, 2 for the glowplug circuit, the fuel heater, the injection pump, etc.
We may be able to figure it out if you give the color wire they feed.
i dont remember off hand what color they are, but as far as i can tell everything still works. the WTS light still cycles for about 10 BUT i hear no clicking at all. guess these may have been the 2 for glowplugs. the 2 that melted are tied togather at the top most stud. AND the white multiwire plug that i think is the one circled in yellow in the pic that keeps poping up in posts is VERY melted on the large power wire with the insulation cracking. being am electrician i know something is wrong, but being a lazy butt, i am not wanting to get out there and mess with it. it will probably be a daylight tomorrow fix b/c i need to haul the tractor to do more hurricane cleanup.
ok, if this wont work, just remind me i am a dumm@$$ redneck/countryboy, ok? Instead of putting new fuselinks on the gp wires, that is the 2 that melted, can i go with fused #10 wire? and if so, what size fuses should i use? I am putting off the cleanup trip for a week, but i need to try to get it going today, no one home to distract me...
my electrical background tells me that is a hazzard b/c of load to wire size. The fuselink says 14 ga. but 14 is only good for about 15 amps #2 is needed for 100 amp. But yall tell me that what is there is what i need, so i'll overlook my concearns. Ya'll know what these trucks need, and i will trust yalls advice. Its just hard for the electrician in me to overlook this.
hey dave, do the link wires go directly to the controller? or is there another stop off point on the way? I ran out of heatshrink and connectors b4 i got the cab harness spliced all the way so i had to make a 4 hour trip to restock. needless to say i didnt get to traceing the wires out of the harness. + i wound up spending WAY to much time at bestbuy buying a printer. But is is a cool one, i can sit on the john and print HEHE Hightec Redneck

Being a electrician, I know you have heard about box fill and max conduit fill. It's all about how many wires are packed together, and how much heat they can dissipate. The factory gets away with the smaller wires because they are more out in the open and allowed to get warm, and have a short duty cycle.
Don't worry, your thinking is right. Pull 200 amps through two #10 wires for more than a few minutes, and you will have problems. They just have it on a delicate balance in the truck's circuit design.
And they do miss the mark all the time. These trucks are famous for the headlight switch wiring burning up, and the connector for the glowplug harness burning up.
The power on the 87 start at the starter relay, then go straight to the engine harness and straight to the glow plug relay.
Nothing else on those two wires at all.
Yes, the headlight circuit is also loaded to capacity.
The best thing I ever did to mine was the headlight relay with 12 gauge to each headlight from the relays.
Brighter lights and the bulbs last a lot longer.
