[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jul-02 AT 08:34 PM (EST)]i have no muffler on a 351w. it is loud but not to loud. sounds really healthy. 2.5 piping dualed out from cats to 3 inch echotips. a k&n airfilter is a must for this setup. it made mine sound 100% better. im not sure of your year but i dont know if you have the dual cat setup, if you do do what i did, i didnt have to mess with those damn cats or replace them. i just junked the muffler. if your cats are not restrictive a 40 series will be really loud and 3 inch echotips will make it deeper and sound better.
The two cat setup really muffles the sound. I just put an amerian thunder cat back on mine, started it up without any pipes just the one coming off the second cat and it wasn't 1/2 as loud as I thought it would be. To tell you the truth, a 40 series does very little muffling of sound, most of it is from the cats.
