Makes me wish the PO hadn't removed the factory mount to put an extremely CRAPPY cd player in there. I would much rather have the stock AM radio to work with.
yeah, that is pretty cool. I just installed some tunes in my 68 f100 last night. i like the look of the factory am radio, so i left it in. I had an amp from my younger days, which i installed under the bench seat. I have the amp hooked to a toggle switch to turn it on and off. I bought a cable that has RCA jacks on one end and a headphone jack on the other end.... you put the headphone jack in an iPod and run the RCA jacks to the amp. I bought s pair of infiniti component speakers that have 6.5 inch woofers with little 1 or 1.5 inch tweeters... they come with crossovers to seperate the hi and low tones. the only thing left to do is to put them in some sort of enclosure. the point of going this route for a stereo is to leave this trucks interior original, and with that said i don't want to cut into the doors, so i think i am going to build a little speaker box a little bigger than a shoe box and it can sit on the tranny hump. does anyone have any better suggestions for a speaker box?
i put two speaker in a piece of plywood and attached in the middle of the back of my seat. left the cables a little long so that when i pull the seat forward they dont get pulled out. It is plenty loud enough to be heard and doesnt bothe anybody unless some one sits in the middle of the seat which is very rare.
i want my truck to be both loud with the exaust and stereo so i am going to remove the in cab tank and replace it with 2 10 in. competeition subs. to round it all out and bring some balance to the mix i am going to put some all in 1 speakers some place else idk where yet.
Of course they make extension cables. But don't you see the point? You shouldn't have to use an extension cable.
Interesting point. I saw the rear USB and thought, "Now there's somebody who was thinking!". Less clutter, more original looking, and it would allow me to hide the ipod in the glove box.
I didn't even think about someone who would want to have the player sitting on the dash, or seat or ash tray.
Maybe the radio should have both, or an option to purchase the radio with front or rear mounted USB would have been a better idea.
Funny how two people can look at the same thing and have totally different opinions.
i mounted a kenwood in my van that has a rear usb input. It cam with a cable that has two mounting holes on the end of the cable so i used two screws and attached it under the dash.
this radio says it comes with a .5 meter cable 18" roughly. that would be plenty of wire to put the usb input almost anywhere you wanted.
a crafty non smoker could put it in the ashtray and it would look very clean when not in use. be advised though most mp3 players will not play through the usb cable.
