I have a 98 expedition, occasionally when I go to start it Ill have to try 3 times before the theft light will stop flashing.the truck came with a plain metal key and they seemed to have a wire wrapped around the ignition cylinder to energize it? Also, the speedometer will read really fast like itll show 60mph when Im really going 40-45 and its jumpy, the temp gauge goes straight past h randomly(sometimes right when started other times after a mile or 2)the gas gauge constantly reads full too.Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Someone rigged the ignition with a bypass module so that regular keys could be used instead of ones with the coded chip in them. Maybe the loop around the ignition isn't wrapped tight enough?
As for the other problems, it sounds like you might have a bad engine to body ground strap connection, or the strap is outright missing. Another possibility is the GEM is acting up. This is due to a well known windshield leak issue that allows small amounts of water to drip down into the GEM. There are a lot of post on this site regarding GEM issues. You'll have no trouble finding them in a search.
Well my windows, locks and wipers are all working fine.Im thinking maybe the temp sender switch is bad causing the temp gauge to spike, and I have a fuel cell in the truck so maybe its the wrong ohm rating?Going to check out the sender this weekend
