what should i look for when checking out some used trucks. I know the lowest mileage would be the best but what mileage do they need alot of work (injectors oil leaks transmision)
thanks
Hard to say. My truck has over 230,000 now and has needed alot. My truck was rode hard and put up wet though. Some people have had injectors go at 150,000, but there was a 95 E250 that had 550,000 on it on original parts at our battery shop. Make SURE the vehicle was cared for. oil leaks are hard to predict but most common are pedestal o rings, or ebpv seal. Transmission, if you pay close attention to temperature if you tow, should last a while with a valve body and better programming which can be attained via a DP tuner chip or TW chip...
Lets see, I've replaced the CPS (sensor), alternator, starter, clutch, and..., well I guess that's really it unless you want to count fluids, filters & tires, but I've only got 279,000 on my truck.
As mentioned, maintenance is the key on these engines. Here's some info you can read up on that will give you a better idea of what to look for. If you have any questions, don't be shy about asking. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...questions.html
I wouldnt be afraid of over 100k at all. I bought my F350 new and it has right at 180k on it. Havent done anything more than what Chris listed (no clutch though). I bought my X with 80k a year and half ago, but it is getting harder to find 7.3's with lower miles. IMHO it is better if they have been run than if they have been sitting and only going around town. As long as they have been cared for they will run for a long time w/o major issues.
