Maybe you need to find out why they keep going bad. You aren't going to remove the cats without triggering a light. Fuel management relies on information from the O2 sensors and the O2 sensors rely on the cats.

CAts don't just go bad. You have a really poor running condition if it's eating them. How many miles are on this truck? What are you running for spark plugs and wires? Does it have a bad coil? Are you running a cheapo tuner that makes it run full rich all the time? What temp thermostat are you running?

That's what I think too. I don't have cats because my LT's came with resonators instead......I hate the smell and I plan on welding some Magnaflow cats in place when I get the chance. Deleting cats isn't a good idea anyway you look at it.

Not to mention the fine if you get caught.

Agreed,The cats are there for a reason, and emissions notwithstanding,if you eliminate them youre going to loose economy, and reliability. If youre "eating" converters, you need to find out why and correct the issue(as previously stated).Ive restored many cars over the years, and almost all of them had been modded to some extent...these cars were cheap because because the previous owner didnt stick to the OEM equipment and specs.

You will loose power across the board without cats. And any condition that kills cats will also eventually kill the engine itself. The carbon-build-up gets in the rings and scores the cylinder walls.

I've posted this story several times on this forum, you can look it up if you want more details, but in short, a good buddy of mine turned an Buick Grand national into a track car and wanted it to be street legal. On day he left the cats on at the race track, and it shaved 2 tenth of a second off his already fast quarter mile time. Cats are your friends.

How do you know they are going bad? Like are they breaking apart inside and rattling or do you think they are plugged?
