I check the truck and discover that when I use all the lights, meaninig normal driving lights and headlights, they discharged the battery.
The way I discover this was starting the truck and removing the battery. the alternator its ok so it runs. but when i start turning the headlights, then the truck dies. I'm taking the regulator to see if it is bad, but its there something else to check or that you know its wrong? I also disconected the headlights to see if there was a short circuit, but it went ok. also i turn the headlights once and the truck didnt die/
ok mistake #1 never run an alternator without a battery in place you need the battery to excite the alternator you will fry your alternator. the easiest way to check your alternator is with a voltmeter, engine off battery voltage should be 12.6 volts, running it should be putting out 14.2-14.7 volts at the battery. If not shut the engine off unplug the regulator put a jumper wire between I and F terminals of the plug, start the engine it should be charging 15 plus volts at the battery if it is the alternator is ok and the regulator is bad. if it is not the alternator is bad. But again never disconnect or run an alternator without a battery in the circuit.
