Headers / New Exhaust on 302

I'm doing a 302 engine swap in my 90 Ford, replacing the worn-out 302 that's currently in there. I can get a cheap pair of full length headers for it, and I have a few questions. Here's what I would like to accomplish: Put on the headers, remove all my old exhaust, and just have true duals comming out in front of my rear tires. I was just wondering if a Y-pipe is necessary, and also where I should place the O2 sensor, does it need to be in the Y-pipe, or can I just put it on one side of the exhaust.

The truck is a 4x4 with a 5 speed, the guy told me the headers will fit, and hopefully I can work some magic to get the pipes to fit under the truck.

Thanks
Jason

You need to have an H-pipe setup, were a pipe connects the two duals. This balances out any unequal exhaust flow. Also, you need an oxy sensor bung welded into the system if it doesn't already have one. The stockers have a small H-pipe to connect the two pipes coming off the engine, with the oxy sensor in the middle.

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Heavyduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Weighs around 7,000lbs w. 65mph top speed, who wants to race me!
