This morning it was -15 at 7am..I could tell, the darn furnace would'nt quit running..Anyway , I go out at 8 to start all 3 of the vehicles in the driveway.. My '99 ranger was first, as I need to know if I can get to work on my own, so I do the 3 turns of the key: on, off, on, off, on, start-well it was a little slow on the cranking (aftermarket battery is about 1 year old), but she started -good, next, my daughters '98 Neon with 180,000 miles on the clock-I do the same as the Ranger, Bingo, fires right on the first crank(aftermarket battery)..OK, my wife comes out to start her '07 Escape..I told her about the key thing , and she tries to start, and it barely turns over, with the 5w20 syn-blend in the crankcase like the warranty calls for, I woulda thought it would start like right now, with only 40,000 on the ticker, but nooooooooo, the old Ranger with the Wal-Mart oil(5w30), does the honor of jump starting this baby!!! I can tell you outright I have never been a big fan of Motorcraft batteries, as this is not the first time this has happen since I've owned Fords..The aftermarket batteries always "seem" to perform better in cold, and last longer..Just MY opinion..Whadya all think?????
I use Duralast (Autozone) batteries in my Ranger. Had one in my Buick when I had it, never had an issue. When the battery in the Dodge goes south, it will have a Duralast battery in it. Only battery I have found better is the Sears Die Hard. That thing sat in the Ranger for 8 years, and still worked for about a month after driving it again. (Obviously it was charged from time to time).
i dunno, i had my stock batt in my focus for 4 years, the car sat for bout 3 mo.s in the freezing cold, snow/ the works, charges the batt when car was back together, and she ticked right over, took a bad ground draining it multiple times (ex had the car while i was on the road drivin truck) and then it was finally dead. IMO it was a damned good battery, right now i have a napa legend in it, and she starts right up now that the ground is fixed.

Well, here we go AGAIN!!! It is -17 at this time , and had to go jump the Escape again!! What the HE-DOUBLEHOCKEYSTICKS is up with that..2 year old car in great shape, 40,000 miles, and it won't start in this cold..My old Ranger is slow on the crank, but fires off..Initial warranty(3/36) went by the wayside early because of mileage, but I'm gonna see what the extended warranty covers(Base Care plan), or if the battery has a warranty of its own, especially if its this new!!! Going to call the dealer today, and lets see if Ford will step up to the plate, and get a hit, or a swing and miss..If its not covered, and they're not gonna help me, OK, going to Wal-Mart!! Have these in my Ranger, and the '98 Neon, and crank over enough to start in this weather..The thing that kills me is, she drives 30-40 minutes(it starts then) home after her part-time job, and its late when she gets home, and my Ranger sits there for 3-4 hours before she gets home-go figure?????
