Is it electric shift or manual?
Could be the linkage, and could be internal. Xfer cases are not too complicated, pretty simple if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.
Heh.... Sorry, dude, guess I was just in 'one of those moods'. Happens to everybody.
So, are you saying everything works in 2WD? But not 4L or 4H? I don't think it could be a
hub, then, cuz that wouldn't account for there not being any power going to the rear wheels
when in 4WD.
First thing to check is the linkage, are you in fact moving that little lever on the side of the
xfer case when you move the lever in the truck. If you're lucky, your problem will be
there and is easily fixable. If it's internal to the xfer case, well, I wouldn't say it's
terrifically complicated but it's a fair amount of work to remove & install that thing and
your truck is entirely disabled during the entire operation. You might call around and get
estimates on getting it rebuilt. And, search the Web, there are rebuild kits available for
those so inclined. drivetrain.com is one such place.
Junkyard would be an option. The New Process and Borg Warner transfer cases are well built and chances of finding a decent one are pretty good. If your hearing gear clash, your transfer case might be toast.
