I own a 98 Explorer w/ 5.0 302. i ouwld like to loosen up the exhaust a bit to get a slightly, i emphasize slightly throatier sound and allow the engine to breathe a bit, any suggestions of muffler or is there more needed to be done?
A 50 series is a muffler that will be fairly loud outside, but quiet inside. I can't even hear mine with the windows up and the radio at a normal level.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:

Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Heavyduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Weighs around 7,000lbs w. 65mph top speed, who wants to race me!
I was told by a muffler shop guy that late-model Fords are notoriously bad for having excessively restrictive mufflers and exhaust systems. I replaced just the muffler on my `99 F150 with a Flowmaster 40-series and got two mpg better.
