Ok so far so good. All the best thing I found was a length of hose with a plug at the end. Ive watched my coolant level for the last 2 weeks and it seems to be fine. I still smell a small bit of coolant but when I smell around it seems to be off the overflow can. Thanks a ton Guys this sight rocks. I still owe you all a picture.
I would still check the thermostat gasket. I had the same issue as you. I could smell coolant but could never find anything. It would take a few months for me to notice the drop in coolant level, until one day the gasket gave way and it leaked big time.
Just a heads up.
Some trucks have a coolant line going from the throttle body to this extra nipple below the cap. On others the line goes from the throttle body to a heater hose. Every replacement radiator I've installed (including both my 95's) have this port which is capped if not used. Most 351 trucks used the line going to the radiator, but my 94 with a 302 also has it...I haven't found a pattern yet.
As far as the coolant smell, check your timing cover gaskets. These are known to seep after some miles, and if you see even dried up antifreeze residue around them that's probably your problem. This fixed my antifreeze smell I had for a long time. But now my thermostat gasket is starting to seep... (No more cheap gaskets for me).
