Key Turning Problem in Doors and Tailgate

I have always had occasional problems getting the key to turn the door and tailgate lock, and now it is getting worse. I typically have to turn the key back and forth several times to get the lock to finally turn.

Searching the forum suggests cleaning the locks by spraying with brake cleaner and lube with graphite.

Has anyone else had this problem and have another suggested fix?

Do you have this problem with both door locks and the tailgate lock? If so, I would suspect the key itself is about wore out.

If the key works fine in the one of the three locks then yeah, I would say do some cleaning as suggested.

All keys have occasional problems in all locks, though the driver door has become worse recently.

The doors have electric locks, and the driver door usually will not open with the remote. If I put the key in the driver door lock and hit the remote button 3 or 4 times, it will then unlock with the key.

PB Blaster makes a dry lube that is like a miracle cure for difficult locks. They sell it at Home Depot, but here is a link so you can see what the can looks like. Blaster Dry Lube

I had the same problem with my truck, turned out to be the key was just worn a bit. If all your locks are acting up, it's more likely your key than the locks.

Your locks might be gummed up because you use the remote a lot. I bought my truck and the key worked great in the passenger front door but wouldn't budge in the tailgate or driver's front door. Every now and then I would open the doors and spray WD 40 in the locks and let it drip out the bottom of the door (drain hole). I would let it sit for 10 min or so then go work the key back and forth. It took 6 months but my key works great in all 3 locks now!

I would recommend the WD 40 trick before a new key. It's cheaper and isn't it a requirement to be a man for you to have a can of WD 40 lying around at home at all times?
