ok guys heres my problem just bought a 92 1/2 ton when i was looking at it only problem i seen was a rough idle 3 days and maybe 200 miles later i thought the fuel pump went out of the front tank couldnt get over 5 mph or it would die, switched to the back tank and it smoothed out and ran fine for a few more days now yesterday itstarted fine i went about 5 miles and when i came to a stop sign it died would turn over for a while start rev up and then die did this about 3 time then it started running but the check engine light came on parked it and sat all day got in last night it started fine drove a couple miles came to a stop and died same thing starting after i got it started drove home never letting it get below 1500 rpms this morning it ran fine gonna try the self test but sounds like a long process and its cold here about 10 right now didnt know if anyone had some ideas that could help thanks in advance
Definitely sounds like you have a fuel supply problem so test the pressure available at the rail, it should approach 35-40psi just by cycling the key a couple times without starting the engine.
Codes are not that hard to pull so definitely do this. All you need to do is ground the STI wire in the EEC test harness, turn the key to run and count the flashes on the check engine light. You can repeat this as many times as you like to make sure you get the count right, just cycle the key.
i am defenitly going to try the self test and i have a fuel filter on the way but i thought i read in a nother post that there is a regulator or something on the rail that can cause problems but they didnt really sound like my problems but thanks for your responses
This is exactly what would happen to my truck when the fuel pump in my rear tank went out. Aside from dying while slowing down the truck would also cut out if you got on the gas real hard.
did the self test got these 3 codes: 24-ACT sensor out of self test range 0.3 to 3.7 volts, 81-Air managment 2 circuit failure(AM2/TAD), and 82-Air managment 1 circuit failure (AM1/TAB) is there anyone that can tell me wut these mean and how to go about fixing it
