e40d no first or reverse

ive looked all over this forum and many others and havent found what i was looking for. i have a 95 f150 351 e40d 4x4, and after changing my fluid and filter, i lost first and reverse gears in the tranny. i can hold the throttle half way open and it will slip into second gear and drive fine going into drive and overdrive. im thinking maybe a solenoid or valve stuck. as of now i havnt checked any codes nor do i have any lights flashing. any help is appreicated.

Dumb question, but are you sure you filled the transmission to capacity? In other words, when you changed out the oil & filter and removed say, 12 qts, are you sure 12 qts went back in?

Not sure if this will help or not, but I had the same situation on a 91 4x4, C6 though, and it was doing the same thing, turned out to be one of the gears in the transfer case.

14 qts is what we put in it.

no, if it was in the x-fer case, i wouldnt have any gears. they tranny is like its not getting pressure to engage the clutch pack.
