I'm putting in the 3 gauge pillar. Lookin around at all the options for the guages. Came across Glow Shift gauges. Seems to be a good price, plus the gauges change color to match the interior. Has anyone ever heard of or used them. Or any ideas where to go for a good deal. Planning on putting in a volt, pyro, and boost. I already have a trans temp in the stock gauge cluster.
Here are some shots of mine. I have boost, tranny temp and EGT. I don't think the stock gauge is all that good. I think it is more either good or bad and by the time the gauge reaches a warning temp the damage has been done. At some point I plan on going to a 4 gauge pod and adding fuel pressure. They are Isspro. One thing about this package is that the instructions were fantastic. I don't know when I have installed anything with more accurate instructions. They were make and model specific. Anyway here are some shots.
I was a bit curious about the trans temp. I was lookin towards the volts because my alternator just went out and I had no idea until my truck died on the side of the road because my batteries were finally dead. That was a nice little chunk of change!

The only "real" gauges on the oem cluster are the tach, fuel, and speedometer (and boost if your truck is new enough). All others are warning lights made to look like gauges. So, like Zip said, the tranny gauge doesn't really warn you of damaging temps until damaging temps are reached.
Fuel pressure and EGT are the two most important parameters to monitor. Fuel pressure needs to stay above 45psi or damage to your spendy injectors can occur. An EGT gauge lets you know how hard your working your truck and when you need to get out of the throttle. Both of these are extremely important and should be numero uno on your list, especially if you ever add a tune.
Tranny temp is also important if you pull heavy and want to monitor how hard you're working your tranny. Water temp and oil temp are important for diagnosing the health of your EGR cooler and oil cooler, both failure prone parts on these trucks. A voltage gauge and oil pressure gauge would also be nice to have, but fall a rung lower on the ladder of importance.
FYI - I think you can access voltage (and quite a few other parameters) through the on-board diagnostic routine explained in your owner's manual.

Here are Isspro gauges with green LED's in them. I would go with Isspro or Dipricol gauges, they match the stock gauges pretty good and are very accurate. Do a search for Glow Shift... I also looked at them before I purchased the Isspro's but heard mixed reviews on them. One of the site sponsors, dieselmanor.com, is very good to deal with if you want to purchase aftermarket products for your truck.
You both have nice setups. I'm on the fence for what I want (dash or pillar), but I like the "turbo boost" on the boost gauge. Makes me feel kinda 1980s Knight Rider-ish.
