Good highway tire for SD

I have a 2WD 7.3L extended cab. I'll be in the market for new tires this spring. Anybody have suggestions?

This is a truck that just runs on the road. I want quiet ride and good fuel mileage. Winter driving is not important. No heavy hauling. Just towing 8K pounds at best.

I'm running the Michelin LTX A/T2 tires... very smooth and quiet.

I second the Michelin, and they are very good in the snow on a 2wd.

I run Pirelli Scorpions on my stock 16x7 rims and have really enjoyed them (265/75-16 E rated). Good traction (pavement, sand, dirt, mud) and VERY quiet on the road. They are down to about 30% tread and still no humming on the highway.

I have a set of Continental's that were on my 08. They are LT275/70R18 E-rated. Took them on a trip to Arizona and back. They ride good, no noise I just needed more aggresive tread so I replaced them. Now they collect dust in my shed.

I agree the Pirelli Scorpions are a very good highway tire. I have no complaint about them other than I want an a/t or m/t tire for those sticky situations.

I've had Michelin tires on a luxury car and they were awesome. If the truck tires are just as good then I'm sold.

Nobody mentioned BFG. I really like the AT tires on my Jeep. Not sure how the less aggressive tires compare.

I put plain old Firestone Transforce HT tires on mine. Not as high performance(or price) as Michelins or Pirelli's, but I like them so far. Only about 10K on them but they are quiet and they were relatively inexpensive. I get decent traction in snow too (for a highway tire).

I've run the Michelin LTX M/S tires and their predecessor models on both of my trucks for many years. Great ride and adhesion and I get about 70,000 out of a set. I rotate and balance about every 6k - 7.5 k. I can recommend these tires without reservation.

After shopping around I couldn't bring myself to spend all that money on a Michellin. I have no doubt it is a nice tire but in my mind it is not worth the huge premium price tag. I ended up choosing between Kelly and Cooper. I chose the Cooper Discovery highway tread because they are one of the ONLY tires made with pride in the US. After 3000 miles I have no complaints.

Good luck with your purchase.
For any of you running Michelins, has anyone been disappointed with the AT2's? I ran a set of AT's on my 2003 DRW and loved them. I replaced with the AT2 and was not happy with the way the tires were wearing so unevenly. I would recommend the M/S over the AT2.
