somalia pirates

I bet if I lived here I would do exactly the same thing.....and you would too.
These people have absolutely nothing so why not go for the cherry on the cream pie.
What are you going to lose, your life?
On the other hand if I was a boat commander I would shoot to kill anything that got within 1 mile of my boat......no quesitions asked.

When you have nothing you'll try anything. If things keep going on as they are some of my old army buddys and I may be out looking at a ship or something.

Agreed, somewhere in somalia, are pirates driving around in Escalades with 22in. wheels, gold plated AK47s and sporting "grills".

Same country where'Blackhawk Down' took place. I think that it's an awfully poor place, and that life is pretty hard.

I suspect that they'll keep it up if there's even a fair chance that they'll succeed. Alternatives are probably also unpleasant.

I guess they look at it as easy money, at least until now. Why the shipping firms haven't done something a long time ago is beyond me. I hate it that the worlds navies have to come in to take on what should be done first by the companies.

i would fill an old ship up with ammonium nitrate fertilizer, and drive it past them . when the pirates take it back to their hiding hole, push the detonator button and blow then all into a gazillion little pieces. then collect the insurance money on the load of fertilizer, and call it a day.

All I know is that I would not be paying them to steal from me.
Maybe if the rich oil companys would just fly over them and drop food etc. may slow it down.

They aren't taking ransoms to buy food. They are using the money to buy weapons and power over those with no food. Same reason the aid programs haven't worked - the corrupt "leaders" steal the food to sell it to those with nothing to start with.

I'm still laughing at the dead terrorist/pirate/POS they found floating face down with $153,000 in cash in his pockets....

The money for ransoms and insurance would go a long way when hiring some "security" guards. I bet Blackwater would take on the contracts.

Back in the day of sail, merchant ships were armed as good as, if not better than the Navies of the world. That way they did not have to figure out who was in charge out in international waters, and who was going to save thier buts. It was all up to themselfs.
