ESP Availability for 2005 SD

For awhile, I've been thinking that I'd sell/trade my 2005 SD within the next year but have now decided that I'm going to keep it at least 3 more years...probably longer. It's a '05 crew cab and currently has about 64k miles.

Since I am going to keep it well beyond the warranty, I've been thinking about an extended warranty. I priced them out at Ford Extended Warranty - Genuine Ford ESP - they're not cheap but worth considering.

Based on a number of posts here, I sent a note to Tony Dietrich and got a note back that there are no Ford Warranty's available for my truck because they can only be purchased when the vehicle is within the factory 3/36K warranty
period or at the time of sale on a used vehicle from a dealer.

Is that correct? I'm puzzled because that seems to contradict some of the info I've found on this site. Plus, it certainly appears that by going through the steps on Ford Extended Warranty - Genuine Ford ESP I can buy the warranty provided my truck passes inspection at a local dealer.
