Rear Diff Leak

Starting to get some fluid leakage down the rear diff from the top. Seems to have originated from the top center, but that could be wrong. What do you think? I'm not sure how much fluid is in there. I did have them serviced about 9K ago. I dont want to have any problems. Is is common to leak anywhere other than the gasket or seal? Thanks for the input....Ron.

If it's leaking from the top, the first place I would check is around the vent tube. The tube comes out the top and runs over to the drivers side frame. It will look like a brake line if you don't know what you're looking at until you find the end that doesn't connect to anything.

Why would it come from the vent, at top. Could it be excessive heat?

Things expand when they get hot. If the tube is plugged up, the pressure has to go somewhere. It's at least worth checking. The VSS also mounts on top of the rear diff. I've never heard of one leaking, but it has an o-ring that seals it. An inspection mirror should tell you where the fluid is coming from.
