Head Liner

I pulled the headliner out of my 98 F150 and pulled the material off to replace it. The problem I have is the material came off but all the padding stayed on. Does the padding/foam backing have to come off before applying the new headliner or can I spray/glue the new one to the old padding? I checked the entire board and cannot find anywhere it is loose or frayed.

Help

Dan

If the padding is on tight, then you can apply spray adhesive and the new covering to it. Worst case is the padding eventually loosens and you have to do it again.

Just make sure you use some quality adhesive. I used a cheaper brand once and it lasted about a week.

It's not to bad, I watched a kid in my MECP class do his door panels in suede. Spray adhesive on the surface and stretch your material and smooth it out as you go. For the adhesive, they had some special stuff at school, but I've had good luck with 3m's Super 77 spray on adhesive.

Headliner

It was pretty easy once i figured it could be done without removing the old liner. The old liner except in one place was in good shape so glueing the new one to it was fine. I upgraded the 98 at the time and put an 01 overhead console in, by using the old lined under the new one it made that job easier since there was no gap to fill because of the extra thickness from the two liners.
