Unburned fuel is one sign of a leaking injector. See if you can get ahold of a good code reader and see if your throwing a cylinder contribution/balance code. If you are then whatever the number is is the injector that is having the problem.
I agree with Tex. One other thing to consider, and I know it sounds kind of dumb, but check the soles of your shoes and your clothes when you get in your truck. If you've never had a diesel before, you'd be amazed at how easily you can get it on you and not know it. Most of the time, when I get fuel, it's all over the handle at the pump, spilled on the ground, etc. If it gets on your floormats or carpet, you're gonna smell it. Just a thought.
Tex is right, the only other thing it could be is super cold weather. I don't know what kind of weather you are operating in but if it is damn cold out your exhaust will have unburnt diesel in it till you get the engine up to temp. And even then, if you are on the throttle hard, your exhaust will have a blue tint to it all thins is normal when operating in -0 F temps.
the weather is to bad i live in PA. And as for being on me i smell it more thenjust after i fill up and its not there all the time it does seem to go away. And yea this is my first one to own but i have been around them both my uncles have 04' diesel excursion's.
Clean the fuel filter cap under the hood with carb cleaner and wipe it down, Then drive for a few days, then check if there is any residue or wet spots.
