hi yall, i am currently deployed to the desert somewhere and when i get back i am thinking of buying a edge programmer. about 1 week before i left i bought an 06 screw lariat. i got a couple questions that maybe you can answer before i spent that much money. is this programmer just plug and play with a new harness, or maybe spliced in? will i be able to tell a difference as far as throttle response and better shift points? i have never used one, so i am new at this. any info would help alot! also... would i be able to fit 33's under my truck stock or would i have to get a leveling kit?
I recommend going with the SCT programmer and using Troyer performance tunes. Troyer has programmed more f150's and goes deeper into the tune than anyone. Read up on the FTE project truck and the tuning that was done. Mike Troyer is also an awesome guy to talk to...Can you say you've talked to any other premier programmer/tuner owners?
the edge is a great unit.... my favorite thing about it is the ability to read all of the options (mpg, temps, etc...). you will notice a better throttle response, and shift points... you have the ability to change the shift points, and firmness as well.
as for the tires.... are you a 4wd? if so, then you can fit 33's on stock wheels as is, or 35's on stock wheels with leveling kit.... if you go with aftermarket wheels, you will probably only be able to go with 33's depending on the wheel specs. the stock tire size is very close to a 33 as is, just real skinny.
good luck over in the sand box from one service member to another. hope you tour goes well, and welcome to the boards !!!
Check out Bill's website. They are a Edge programmer, but he re-program's them with custom tunes and then calls it a Gryphon. Bill used to be part of the design team for Edge and now works on his own. He can make custom programs for your truck depending on your individual needs. Especially if you have made mods to your truck, ie CAI, Exhaust, etc.
There is a good forums page off his main website that has all kinds of feedback, questions, etc. Check it out for yourself.....
is there any other way to go???!!!!!!! the only question i have about that is that my stock rims are 18" should i still be good to go? thanks for the advice on all the other programmers, but the reason that i was gonna go for the edge was because i wanted a "cookie cutter" programmer, that would be easy for my wife to use when im not around.
yeah, i forgot to tell you that the EDGE is a direct plug and play unit. it plugs into the OBDII port, and installed in a matter of a couple minutes. it is very easy to program, and your wife wont have any problems with it.
