X-Pipe on 71' 460
I hand built an X-pipe out of 2.5 inch 304 stainless by putting two 90 degree bends back to back and cutting them with a drop saw so that they would be siamesed and fit nicely. I welded them together and extended the ends with more stainless. Im running a stock engine with stock manifolds - not the best idea when you wanna run a decent exhaust but hear me out - it still works!
My X is just under the yoke/tailshaft/extension housing. Im running through a pair of "Super Cat" flow through mufflers (Aussie made I think), onto straight pipe (neatly tucked into the frame rails), over the diff and then off to tailpipes that exit just past each wheel.
The sound is awesome to say the least. Turns heads both in traffic and from the sidewalk. Surprisingly though its not loud - it just sounds good!
When you are cruising the sound in the cabin is non-existent. Step on the gas a little and you get shivers up your spine with the sound. Top end sounds phenomenal to boot.Despite all this good stuff - I wasnt after sound - I was after FLOW. Suffice to say I got the flow. Maybe a little too much. I lost a little bit down low - to about 2000rpm, but beyond that I never look back! It pulls waaaay harder from 2000 onwards and has lifted my redline considerably. Best part of the whole deal is that my part throttle is really healthy which helps the MPG.
I will have proper MPG figures next week - I dont think burning a set of tyres off really helps my current MPG readings.
If anyone would like further info or some pics lemme know.
PS - I run Propane!
