I just bought an 81 f150 custom inline 6 300 c4 for a steal had to put in new distributor been slightly overheating since the get go but got real hot last time i drove it now oil is milky of course first thought is head gasket took off the valve cover oil on rockers is not milky dont know if it sat for a while or what but any opinions thoughts or ideas would be helpful and appreciated
I ABUSED the I6 in my F100 and I overheated it once, it would get milky oil with short trips, but if I left it running for 30 minutes it would boil all of the milk out of it. Then again it had over 350K on that motor, so it came with the terroritory. You might try tightenin the head bolts a few more FtLbs and squeeze the wore out headgasket a little bit more.
If it's very humid outside, it's possible for the oil to get milky (on the dipstick) due to condensation.
The more worn your engine is, the more this will likely happen.
If it burns off when the engine warms up, then it shouldn't be a problem.
Now if it's puking up milky oil around the oil fill cap, PCV valve, and the dipstick with the engine warm, then look to other problems.
Make sure the engine is timed right. Since from what it looks like it just started overheating with the changing of the distributor, a mis-timed engine can run too cool, or overheat.
Well im not sure about the miles it says around 65000 but who knows how many times its rolled over i had one with 450000 miles on it and it did the same thing i was gonna just loosen the drain plug till it drips and see how much water is in it it theres not enough to see then ill just leave it and change the thermostat the timing is right i checked it about ten times with three different lights but i appreciate all the responses and look forward to more
