Hey ya'll. I spend most my time in the 7.3 forum, but had a question. I am looking for an 05-07 6.0 F550 for a possible future project and was wondering what controls the transmission (5r110). If I remove the 6.0 what inputs will I have to emulate? I was planning on leaving the truck in tact, just removing the 6.0 when it stops working. Are the computers seperate for trans and engine??
Thanks!
You sound like it is a Given that the 6.0 is going to let you down ! There are many six-o's that have no issues,,,,I don't think a 7.3 will bolt up too a Torqe-shift tranny. It would be nice if they do though ! Most any issue on the later six-o's are very fixable .
I second that opinion. The 6.0 can be made into a very dependable, strong motor The only other reasonable solution would be to go CAT or Cummins power with a new tranny to suit. Personally, the 6.0 will do just fine with some "engineering improvements"!
Oh no, I'm not saying I feel like the 6.0 is going to let me down, I just want something a bit different, and I don't want to plug up the EGR system even though it may run better. I'm still trying to find a CAT that will fit under the hood that is an I-6 or V8. Not big on Cummins... The 3208 is a bit large it seems and then you run into a transmission control issue. Can't seem to find any trans that would work well and be durable while still giving decent mileage at 65 loaded. If I added an overdrive unit that will get me an OD of 3.8 which would ne nice. Any ideas for a CAT that may fit? Computer controlled would be nice, then again, thats more wiring and confusion haha...
