Has anyone had any luck with summit racing truck headers? I was thinking about picking up a set. I know summit usually has there stuff made by pretty good guys, also does anyone use header wrap on their headers. I used to use it on my race cars, but don't know whether or not to use it on my street truck. Thanks guys.
Summit headers sound ok, just be sure to get the right size primary tubes for your application. As for the header wrap, I wouldnt use it for everyday driving because it wont allow the heat to properly ecape and could severly shorten the life of the headers.
Stay away from header wrap if you want the headers to last. Header wrap will actually expediate corrosion from the inside out and make the headers just kinda go away, then all you got is the wrap.
Better to go with a ceramic coated header, even a cheaper one. Hedman's Elite series is heavy guage, thick flange, and aluminized and ceramic coated. Around $300. After several weeks of reasearch, that is what I went with, but the applications are limited on the 460. Dynomax make a decent setup but not one for the 460. Take a look to see if hey have one for you.
Summit headers are pretty cheap, and even though they make decent stuff, I think they are still uncoated and 18 guage, wich is pretty thin. Dynomax is I think 16 guage, and my Hedmans are 14 guage which is as thick as they come.
What ever you do, don't wrap them. The wrap will also void any warranty. There is a thread somewhere here on how to best paint headers. Do a search for it.
